The military high command has taken steps to deploy personnel to Ondo State in anticipation of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for Saturday. This deployment is part of a broader effort to ensure that the electoral process is conducted smoothly and peacefully.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, provided an update on the military’s involvement. He emphasized that the armed forces would collaborate closely with the police to maintain order and security during the election.

The primary responsibility for internal security during the electoral exercise rests with the Nigeria Police Force. The military’s role is to support the police in their efforts to create a safe environment for voters.
In preparation for the election, police authorities have announced a restriction on vehicular movement throughout the state on election day. This measure will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to facilitate a smooth electoral process.
Additionally, Major General Buba revealed that personnel from the Nigerian Air Force have been mobilized to assist in transporting sensitive electoral materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This logistical support is crucial for the timely delivery of materials needed for the election.
General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has also addressed the residents of Ondo State, encouraging them to vote freely without fear of intimidation or violence. His message aims to reassure the electorate of their safety during the election.
Musa highlighted that sufficient security personnel have been deployed to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process. He stressed the importance of maintaining order and protecting the rights of citizens to express their choices at the polls.
The Chief of Defence Staff emphasized the impartiality of the troops throughout the election process. He reassured the public that the military would not interfere in the voting process, but rather serve to protect it.
In his address, Musa called upon all Nigerians, particularly the residents of Ondo State, to come out in large numbers and vote for their preferred candidates. He reassured them that they would not face intimidation.
Finally, Musa’s visit to Ondo State was aimed at boosting the morale of the security teams deployed for the election under the directive of President Bola Tinubu. He reiterated the commitment of all security agencies to work together to create a safe environment for the electoral exercise.
