The government of Abia State has made a significant agreement with Radisson Blu, a well-known hotel chain, to revive and enhance the Enyimba Hotel in Aba, which has been out of use for a long time. The goal of this project is to transform the hotel into a luxurious five-star resort that will attract visitors and boost tourism.
Ukeje Uche, who is in charge of the Aba Development Authority, explained that this project is part of a broader effort by the government to improve infrastructure in the state, making it a more appealing place for tourists and investors looking for quality accommodations. He emphasized that the government wants to provide comfortable and high-quality lodging for their guests.
Abia State’s Governor, Alex Otti, shared that the ambitious plan will convert the hotel, which has 125 rooms, into a five-star facility complete with a convention center. This upgrade aims to position Aba as one of the leading destinations in Nigeria’s hospitality sector.
Governor Otti also mentioned that the project is expected to bring many job opportunities to local residents, with estimates suggesting it could generate up to 5,000 jobs. The project is estimated to cost between $25 million and $50 million, and Otti assured that the state government has set aside budget funds to pay for it.
While at the signing event in Lagos, the state’s Attorney General, Ikechukwu Uwanna, who represented the governor, reassured everyone that the government plans to work closely with the original owners of the hotel. They have also set up a strong system to resolve any disputes that might arise during the project’s implementation, and they are committed to ensuring that the project is successful and beneficial for everyone involved.
Erwan Garnier, a senior director at Radisson Blu, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with the Abia State government. He talked about how Radisson Blu is focusing on expanding its presence in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, which is a major market for the company. Garnier believes this collaboration will lead to a successful project that will ultimately benefit the residents of Abia State.
The entire renovation and upgrade of the Enyimba Hotel are expected to be completed in about two years.
