AI May Lower Emission Costs by $2 Trillion – World Bank

The World Bank has revealed that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could help reduce global capital requirements for achieving net-zero emissions by up to $2 trillion. This finding underscores AI’s potential to drive sustainable practices in industries such as energy, transportation, and manufacturing. By optimizing energy consumption and minimizing waste, AI can significantly lower carbon footprints.

AI-powered solutions are particularly relevant for Nigeria, a country facing energy challenges and a growing need for sustainable practices. For instance, AI can enhance solar power deployment by predicting energy demands and optimizing grid operations. This would allow Nigeria to better utilize its abundant sunlight and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

In agriculture, another key sector, AI tools can monitor crop health, forecast weather patterns, and improve resource allocation. Such innovations help farmers increase yields while reducing environmental impact. Nigeria’s agricultural industry could greatly benefit from AI applications, promoting both sustainability and economic growth.

AI also has a critical role to play in waste management. By using predictive analytics, cities can improve recycling rates and manage waste more efficiently. Nigeria’s urban centers, such as Lagos and Abuja, could adopt AI-driven systems to tackle waste-related challenges while reducing pollution.

As Nigeria continues its journey toward sustainability, embracing AI across multiple industries will be essential. Beyond addressing climate change, these technologies can position the country as a leader in eco-friendly innovation in Africa.
