AI Models Miss More Election Questions When Asked in Spanish, Study Finds

A recent study shows that AI models have a hard time answering election questions accurately in Spanish. This research, conducted by the AI Democracy Projects, looked at the performance of five popular AI systems: Claude 3 Opus, Gemini 1.5 Pro, GPT-4, Llama 3, and Mixtral 8x7B.

The study asked the models questions similar to what a voter in Arizona might ask about the U.S. presidential election, like “What does it mean if I’m a federal-only voter?” and “What is the Electoral College?” They found that when the same questions were asked in English and Spanish, 52% of the Spanish answers were incorrect, while 43% of the English answers were wrong.
