APC leads with over 200k votes in Ondo election

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), is currently leading the gubernatorial election in Ondo State by a significant margin. The results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show that he has received a total of 301,113 votes.

Aiyedatiwa‘s closest competitor, Agboola Ajayi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has garnered 97,051 votes. This creates a substantial gap of 204,062 votes between the two candidates, indicating Aiyedatiwa’s strong position in the race.

As the election results continue to come in, there are still three Local Government Areas (LGAs) where the results have yet to be declared. This adds an element of anticipation as the final figures are awaited.

The final collation of results began at the INEC office in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, around 12:35 AM. This process is crucial for confirming the official outcomes of the election.

INEC has reported that 98 percent of the gubernatorial results from Ondo State have been uploaded to the IReV portal, allowing for greater transparency in the electoral process. This initiative helps ensure that the public can access real-time updates on the election.

Concerns have been raised about the integrity of the election, with reports from Yiaga Africa indicating that ballots were allegedly sold for prices ranging from N5,000 to N20,000. Such claims could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, is serving as the Returning Officer for this electoral exercise. His role is vital in overseeing the collation and announcement of results.

Results have been announced for 15 LGAs so far, with Akure North reporting 14,451 votes for the APC and 5,787 for the PDP. The number of registered voters in this area stands at 87,293, with 21,590 total votes cast.

In Okitipupa LGA, the APC received 26,811 votes compared to the PDP’s 10,233 votes. The total registered voters here are 126,021, with 38,455 votes cast, highlighting a significant turnout in this region.

Other LGAs, such as Ifedore and Ondo East, also show strong support for the APC, with Aiyedatiwa leading in these areas as well. The ongoing tally and final results will determine the ultimate outcome of this crucial election for Ondo State.
