Pixelmator announced on Friday that Apple is buying the company. They didn’t say much about how things will change after the acquisition, but they assured users that their apps—Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator—will remain the same for now.

However, based on how Apple usually operates, it’s possible that some features from Pixelmator could eventually be added to Apple’s Photos app. Currently, Pixelmator works on iPhones, iPads, and Macs, but it’s not available for Android devices, and that’s unlikely to change soon.
Pixelmator started in 2007 in Vilnius, Lithuania. In their announcement, the company reflected on how a small team from Lithuania has accomplished so much and expressed excitement about reaching more creative people worldwide with Apple’s help.

The deal still needs to be approved by regulators. This acquisition comes as Apple is focusing more on adding AI features to its photo apps. Recently, they introduced a new tool called Clean Up, which can remove unwanted parts of photos, similar to a feature from Google called Magic Eraser.
Apple has not commented on the acquisition yet.
