Apple Users Can Soon Upgrade To ChatGPT Plus In The Settings App

Apple is set to enhance its products with OpenAI’s ChatGPT starting in December when the new iOS 18.2 update is released. This update aims to make Siri and other features smarter with the help of advanced AI. Users who are testing the new iOS have noticed a new option in the Settings app that allows them to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus, a paid subscription from OpenAI that costs $20 a month. This could encourage many Apple users to subscribe, which is important for OpenAI since the free version of ChatGPT has limitations.

For those using the free version, they won’t have access to OpenAI’s latest models or some premium features, and they can only create a couple of images through Dall-E each day. They also can’t chat with the AI as much as paid users can.

A big question in the partnership between Apple and OpenAI is how both companies will profit. Reports suggest that Apple isn’t paying OpenAI directly for this integration; instead, they’re looking for exposure that could lead to more ChatGPT Plus subscriptions. If enough people sign up, this could work out well for OpenAI, but if not, they may end up with many new free users, which could increase their costs.

It’s also unknown if Apple will take a portion of the revenue that OpenAI earns from ChatGPT Plus subscriptions via their Settings app. Apple might be relying on the idea that offering advanced AI features will be attractive enough to encourage customers to buy new iPhones.

Overall, this partnership is unusual. While Apple is using ChatGPT for many of its latest AI features, they aren’t keeping this integration exclusive. Apple has mentioned plans to bring in AI technology from other companies as well, potentially including Google.

In the midst of all this, OpenAI is facing challenges like raising funds and losing key staff members. Apple was reportedly set to invest in OpenAI’s latest funding round but withdrew shortly after OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer left the company unexpectedly.
