Popular comedian Bovi has disclosed that he has moved his family abroad. In a recent episode of the ‘Uncolored’ podcast, he explained that he made this decision for his children due to the prevalence of bullying within the Nigerian educational system.
“My kids no longer live in Nigeria; they have been in the UK for two years now. It began by chance, as my eldest son has been in boarding school there since 2021,” he shared.
Reflecting on his own experiences, Bovi stated, “I attended boarding school in Nigeria, which made me street-smart. I decided my child should go to boarding school, but not in Nigeria, because the educational system there has normalized bullying by allowing senior students to discipline their juniors.”
When discussing the reasons behind the mass migration of Nigerians, Bovi remarked, “The only thing keeping the country stable is that we haven’t experienced war or food shortages, nor have we faced natural disasters. We can lose 500 doctors in a year, but around 200 new ones enter the field. It’s like putting a band-aid on a large wound, which is why the situation hasn’t exploded yet.”
He suggested that if the government wants to address this issue, they should observe what the West is doing. “Why are doctors willing to work in other countries? It’s not solely about the money. When you’re passionate about your work and you find an environment that supports you—where there’s electricity and encouragement—you’re not constantly fighting to go to work or to return home.”
Bovi added, “While it may not be perfect, at least a sense of decency remains intact. Patients have died in Nigeria due to lack of blood or power outages during surgeries. If you’re a medical doctor, would you want to work under those conditions? The answer is no.”
