COREN To Host Engineering Summit In Lagos

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, often referred to as COREN, is organizing an important gathering called the Lagos Regional Engineering Stakeholders Summit. The main purpose of this summit is to discuss the council’s recent changes to its structure and operations.

According to a statement released by COREN’s President and Chairman, Professor Sadig Abubakar, this event is scheduled to happen in Lagos on February 18, 2025. The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will be the Special Guest of Honour at the summit. One of the main attractions of the event will be a keynote speech about how engineering plays a crucial role in building sustainable infrastructure and driving economic growth, not only in Lagos but across Nigeria as a whole.

As the body responsible for overseeing engineering education, training, and practice in Nigeria, COREN is dedicated to improving professional standards, ensuring that engineering practices follow established regulations, and encouraging innovation within the sector.

During this summit, a variety of groups will come together, including policymakers, industry leaders, educators, and engineering professionals. They will discuss the new laws and operational changes COREN is implementing to make the engineering sector in Nigeria more efficient, compliant, and well-governed.

One of the exciting parts of the event will be the formation of the Lagos Regional Steering Committee. This committee will be responsible for monitoring and guiding COREN’s Regional and State Offices to ensure that vital regulatory tasks, like training engineers and checking compliance with standards, are carried out effectively.

Moreover, the summit will announce an expansion of COREN’s oversight to include 11 different branches of engineering. This restructuring aims to improve how the industry is governed, encourage specialization among engineers, and strengthen regulations in Nigeria’s engineering field.

The Chairman of COREN pointed out that this summit is a significant opportunity for engineers, policymakers, and industry leaders to have valuable discussions that will help shape the future of engineering practices in Nigeria.

Engineers, stakeholders in the field, and members of the public are all invited to join this essential national conversation, which will help determine the directions engineering will take in Nigeria moving forward.
