The Magistrate Court located in Yaba, Lagos, has officially cleared popular musician Abdulazeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, of any wrongdoing in connection with the tragic death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, better recognized by his stage name, Mohbad. In a decisive ruling delivered by Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, it was stated that Naira Marley had no case to answer, effectively exonerating him from the allegations surrounding Mohbad’s untimely demise.
In addition to Naira Marley, the court also acquitted several other individuals linked to the case. This includes music promoter Samson Balogun, who is known in the industry as Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, referred to as Primeboy; and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde. The court’s decision reflects a thorough examination of the evidence presented, leading to the conclusion that these individuals were not implicated in any criminal activities related to Mohbad’s death.
However, the proceedings are not entirely concluded, as the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has announced plans to prosecute Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who attended to Mohbad shortly before his passing. The DPP has indicated that there are sufficient grounds to pursue legal action against Ogedengbe, suggesting potential negligence in the care provided.
Additionally, one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq, is also facing charges. He will be prosecuted for engaging in reckless and negligent acts, that contravene Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Chapter C.17, Volume 3, as amended in 2015. This section addresses conduct that poses a significant risk to the safety and well-being of others.
Both Ogedengbe and Sadiq are expected to face trial in the magistrate court, where the specifics of their alleged offenses will be examined in detail. The court’s decisions and the upcoming prosecutions highlight the ongoing legal ramifications stemming from Mohbad’s death, which has garnered significant public attention and concern.
