Customs Ask Traditional Leaders For Help To Stop Smuggling

The Nigeria Customs Service, specifically the Seme Area Command, is actively looking to work closely with local traditional leaders and other government agencies to fight against smuggling and improve security along the border.

Dr. Ben Oramalugo, who is in charge of this Customs area, recently visited traditional leaders and security agencies in Badagry, which is located in Lagos State. During this two-day visit, he highlighted how important it is for his team to build strong relationships with various community leaders and organizations. By collaborating, they hope to strengthen security measures and make trade easier and more efficient in the region.

While in Badagry, Dr. Oramalugo showed respect to the Oba Akran of Badagry and the Oba of Iberoko, recognizing how vital traditional rulers are in keeping peace and harmony in the area. He pointed out that the local leaders play an essential role in supporting efforts to maintain security and ensure that trade can happen safely and legitimately.

Oramalugo emphasized that teamwork between the Customs Service and local authorities is critical for creating a safe environment for trade. He believes that working together with various stakeholders will not only help to generate more revenue for the country but also improve border security and contribute to the overall development of Nigeria.

He explained that the mission of the Customs Service goes beyond just collecting money. They are also focused on protecting the nation and encouraging economic growth. To achieve these goals, they need to form strong partnerships with both community leaders and security agencies.

Dr. Oramalugo also encouraged the local leaders and security personnel to always support their efforts whenever needed. He expressed a desire to create a cooperative environment among different security agencies, similar to what he accomplished in his previous roles in other regions of the country. “We are all working for Nigeria,” he stated, stressing that collaboration is key to their success.

To further strengthen cooperation among agencies, Oramalugo met with representatives from various security organizations, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police Division in Badagry, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps. The discussions during these meetings focused on sharing information more effectively, improving security at the borders, and working together to combat smuggling and other illegal activities that cross borders.
