You can also access it through the Messages app by clicking on a plus sign (+) next to the text box where you usually type messages. Once you do that, you should see an option for the Playground app, which looks like an icon of a cute white cat or fox.
How to create images with Playground
Using Image Playground is pretty simple. Just like other apps that can create images, it has a space for you to type in what you want the image to be. For example, you might write something like “a dog blowing out birthday candles on a cake,” and the AI will turn this description into a fun picture.

If the picture it creates isn’t exactly what you were hoping for, you can refine your request. You can do this by giving the AI a more detailed description or choosing from several suggestions that Apple offers. After you input your description, you’ll see different image options you can browse through and pick your favorite.
You can also upload your own photos—like pictures of yourself, a pet, or a family member—and the AI can modify those images. For instance, you might ask it to add a party hat on someone or place them on a beach background. You even have the option to choose different art styles for your image.
When will Image Playground be available?
Image Playground will be available as part of the iOS 18.2 public beta, which means it’s currently being tested by users who signed up for Apple’s beta program. If everything goes smoothly, everyone should be able to use it officially starting in December.
