Veteran artist Eldee The Don has claimed that his father was the first individual to connect Nigeria to the Internet. He mentioned that his father established the first cyber café in Lagos, providing internet services to oil companies and government agencies. The singer noted that his early exposure to technology gave him a competitive advantage in the music industry.
During an appearance on the Adesope Live show, Eldee The Don shared insights about his father’s significant contributions to technology in Nigeria. He expressed gratitude for having a father who was deeply involved in the tech industry, stating, “Thankfully, I had a dad who was in technology. My dad was a pioneer in his own space as well.”
Eldee emphasized his father’s monumental role, claiming, “That man [my Dad] was the first person to connect Nigeria to the internet.” He acknowledged the ongoing debates surrounding this claim, noting that many people are unaware of his father’s name because he was not someone who sought public recognition. “He wasn’t that guy who wanted to put himself out there,” Eldee remarked.
He elaborated on his father’s achievements, revealing that he established the very first cyber café in Lagos. This café was pivotal in providing internet services to major clients, including Mobil, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and various government agencies. Eldee highlighted the significance of these connections, stating, “The very first connection for Mobil, CBN, and government agencies, my dad was doing all of that.”
Reflecting on his upbringing, Eldee noted that during that period, they had access to technology that was not widely available to the general public. This unique environment allowed him to cultivate his musical talents, as he had a studio set up in their home where he produced music. Eldee’s early exposure to technology and music production ultimately contributed to his success in the music industry, giving him a distinct advantage over his peers.
