Eniola Badmus Reaffirms Her Support for President Tinubu, Sparking Reactions

Eniola Badmus, a well-known actress and Special Assistant for Social Events and Public Hearings to Nigeria’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has once again expressed her unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a time of significant economic hardship in the country. Badmus, who was an enthusiastic campaigner for Tinubu leading up to the 2023 presidential elections, recently took to Instagram to affirm that her views on the president remain unchanged. She stated, “[I am] still standing on Daddy Seyi [Tinubu]’s mandate.”

This declaration has sparked a wave of mixed reactions online, highlighting the divisive opinions surrounding Tinubu’s administration. Many commenters have criticized Badmus for what they perceive as insensitivity to the struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians, who are grappling with the adverse effects of the government’s economic policies.

One commenter, Olori_Nini, articulated frustration, saying, “This is really not the right time to post this. It sounds very insensitive. People are struggling – hungry and frustrated because the economy is tough. If people react negatively, it’s understandable, and honestly, you would have brought it upon yourself. No one is saying you shouldn’t support your candidate, but this post feels like a mockery of Nigerians. Maybe you’re not affected by the current economic hardship, but many people are. You can be loyal to your candidate without posting it here.”

Another user, Oliver_Of_Lagos, added a more cynical note, remarking, “Anywhere belle face. Celebrity isonu. Nothing lasts forever. The internet is a memory storage device.” This comment reflects a sentiment that celebrities should be more mindful of their public statements, especially during challenging times.

Hypeman Ruby shared a personal perspective, stating, “As the first son of the family and the breadwinner, this mandate has made my struggles worse. I find it hard to be there for myself, let alone my family. I love you, Baddoskie, but shey e fe gbor ebo npa,” which conveys the frustration many feel regarding their economic situations under the current administration.

Conversely, some users defended Badmus, arguing that everyone is entitled to their own choices and opinions. Alh_Alubarika commented, “I don’t understand why people are attacking her. Everyone has their own choices. Moreover, that’s where she earns her daily bread, and she can never deny that. If me and you had the same opportunity she has, we would probably do more than her.” This highlights a perspective that acknowledges the complexities of personal and professional choices in the public eye.

Overall, Eniola Badmus’s reaffirmation of support for President Tinubu has ignited a broader conversation about the responsibilities of public figures, the impact of political decisions on everyday lives, and the varying reactions from the public during times of economic distress. As the situation in Nigeria continues to evolve, the discourse surrounding leadership and accountability remains a critical topic among citizens.
