Father of School Shooting Suspect Charged With Murder.
The father of a 14-year-old boy, who is accused of fatally shooting four people at a high school in Georgia, has been arrested and charged with murder. Colin Gray, aged 54, faces serious charges, including four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.
Officials announced that these charges are directly linked to his son’s actions, particularly regarding his access to a weapon. The son, Colt Gray, is alleged to have killed two teachers and two students during the shooting incident at Apalachee High School in Winder, located near Atlanta.
Colt Gray is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, where he will be charged as an adult with four counts of murder. In Georgia, state law permits prosecutors to charge minors aged 13 and older as adults for certain offenses, which can lead to more severe penalties if they are convicted.
Authorities are currently looking into whether Colin Gray purchased the AR-style firearm as a gift for his son in December 2023. Reports indicate that the charges against the father are among the most serious ever brought against a parent in similar circumstances.
In May 2023, the FBI had alerted local law enforcement about online threats related to a potential school shooting. These threats were linked to an email address associated with the suspect, prompting a sheriff’s deputy to interview the boy, who was 13 at the time.

During the investigation, Colin Gray informed the police that he had firearms in the home but claimed that his son did not have unsupervised access to them. This statement was included in an FBI release regarding the case.
Officials revealed that the threats were made on Discord, a social media platform popular among gamers, and included images of firearms. The profile name associated with the account was in Russian and translated to the surname of the perpetrator in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut in 2012.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to determine the full extent of the situation and the implications for both the father and son involved in this tragic incident.
