Former President Jonathan urges Nigerians not to give up on their country

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians to maintain their hope and resilience as the nation celebrates its 64th independence anniversary. He emphasized the importance of optimism, urging citizens not to lose sight of the vision of a prosperous and united Nigeria, even in the face of current challenges.

In his message commemorating this significant milestone, Jonathan highlighted the sacrifices made by nationalists who fought to end colonial rule. He expressed gratitude for their efforts, reminding the populace of the importance of remembering their contributions to the nation’s history.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence in 1960, Jonathan noted the progress made in various sectors. He acknowledged that while the country has faced numerous obstacles, it has also achieved notable advancements that should be celebrated.

The former president pointed out that Nigeria has enjoyed sustained democracy over the past 25 years, following the end of military rule in 1999. This period of democratic governance has allowed for economic growth and development, contributing positively to the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Despite these achievements, Jonathan candidly addressed the significant challenges that still confront the country. He recognized that many Nigerians are grappling with issues that hinder their aspirations and quality of life, which must be urgently addressed.

Jonathan stressed the need for a united effort to tackle these challenges, particularly in areas such as security, economic development, and infrastructure. He believes that a collective commitment to these goals is essential for the nation’s progress.

To deepen the roots of democracy, he advocated for strengthening institutions and fostering a culture that supports peaceful, transparent, and fair governance. This, he argues, is vital for creating an environment conducive to growth and stability.

The former president also called for a renewed focus on national cohesion, urging citizens to work together in pursuit of common goals. He believes that unity is critical for overcoming the hurdles that lie ahead.

In conclusion, Jonathan’s message serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination that have characterized Nigeria’s journey. He encourages all Nigerians to hold onto hope and work collaboratively towards building a great nation for future generations.
