The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated an immediate crackdown on vehicles using fake diplomatic and unauthorized number plates that are currently seen on Nigerian roads. This directive comes from the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, in response to growing concerns about the prevalence of these fraudulent plates.
A statement released by Olusegun Ogungbemide, the public education officer for the FRSC, highlighted that these number plates are being illegally produced by suspected criminals. The use of such plates poses significant risks to public safety and undermines the integrity of the vehicle registration system.
Ogungbemide further clarified that these unauthorized plates were not manufactured by the FRSC’s authorized production facilities, nor were they issued by any state’s motor licensing authorities. This distinction is crucial, as it emphasizes the illegitimacy of these plates and the potential legal ramifications for those who use them.
The list of unauthorized number plates includes various types, such as diplomatic plates, NYCN, Peace Ambassador, NAUS, CYMS, UN-Unity 01, UN-Amb, and NANS. The presence of these plates on vehicles is not only illegal but also often associated with criminal activities.

Ogungbemide stressed that the campaign’s goal is to curb illegal activities linked to these fraudulent plates. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any individuals using unauthorized plates to law enforcement agencies, emphasizing community involvement in ensuring road safety.
Vehicle owners who are currently using these fake or unauthorized number plates have been warned to stop immediately. The FRSC has made it clear that offenders will face prosecution, reinforcing the seriousness of the situation.
