Dear compatriots,
Today, I address you with a heavy heart and a sense of duty, mindful of the unrest and violent demonstrations that have erupted in some of our states.
Notably, the protesters included young Nigerians who sought a better and more progressive country where their aspirations could be realized.
I am particularly saddened by the loss of lives in Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, and other states, as well as the destruction of public facilities and the widespread looting of supermarkets and shops. This goes against the organizers’ assurance of peaceful protests nationwide. The damage caused sets our nation back, as scarce resources will once again be used for restoration.
My condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives in the protests. We must put an end to further bloodshed, violence, and destruction.
As the President, it is my responsibility to ensure public order. In line with my constitutional oath to protect the lives and property of every citizen, our government will not stand by and allow a few individuals with a clear political agenda to divide our nation.
Given the circumstances, I urge protesters and organizers to halt any further demonstrations and provide an opportunity for dialogue, which I have always been open to. Nigeria needs all of us—regardless of age, party, tribe, religion, or other differences—to work together in shaping our nation’s future.
To those who have exploited this situation to threaten any part of the country, be warned: the law will catch up with you. There is no place for ethnic prejudice or such threats in the Nigeria we strive to build.
Our democracy advances when the constitutional rights of every Nigerian are upheld and protected. Our law enforcement agencies should continue to ensure the full protection of the lives and property of innocent citizens in a responsible manner.
Let us remember that our strength lies in our unity. We must come together to foster an environment where dialogue and understanding prevail over violence and discord.
The future of Nigeria depends on our collective efforts to build a society that respects the rights and dignity of every individual. We must strive to create a nation where everyone can thrive and contribute positively.
As we move forward, let us focus on healing and rebuilding. It is essential that we channel our energies into constructive actions that promote peace and prosperity for all.
In this challenging time, I call upon each of you to reflect on our shared values and the vision we have for Nigeria. Together, we can overcome the obstacles we face and emerge stronger.
