Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced that his party is determined to take control of the Rivers State Government House in 2027. This declaration was made during the inauguration of Chief Tony Okocha and 22 other newly appointed executive members of the APC in Rivers.
During his visit to Port Harcourt, Ganduje was accompanied by 16 members of the National Executive Council (NEC). He called on APC members to mobilize their efforts to ensure the party’s success in the upcoming governorship election. He pointed out that the South South region, traditionally dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is beginning to shift, with the APC having made significant inroads in Cross River and Edo states.
Ganduje specifically identified Rivers State as the next target for the APC in the 2027 election. He remarked, “You are from the South-South geopolitical zone where the PDP has been dominant. However, during the Buhari administration, we successfully took Cross River from the PDP, and under the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we won decisively in Edo State. Out of the six states in the region, we have reclaimed two. Rivers State is our focus. We are here for you, Rivers.”
In his address, Ganduje congratulated the newly elected members of the state executive. He explained that while it is customary for inaugurations to take place at the APC headquarters in Abuja, this event was held in Rivers to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and foster unity between the national and state executives.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration and engagement with the local community, stating, “We must embrace the state, maintain contact, and work in harmony. This is why we are here.” Ganduje urged party members to take their roles seriously and to be proactive in their engagements within the state.
As leaders of the party, he reminded them of their responsibilities as outlined in the party’s constitution. He stressed the need for internal democracy and encouraged them to attract new members to the party. “Utilize your political skills to advance the party,” he urged, highlighting the importance of strengthening the APC in their respective constituencies.
