Google has recently shared the costs associated with using its new video-making artificial intelligence (AI) tool called Veo 2, which was first introduced in December.
According to the information on Google’s website, using Veo 2 will cost users 50 cents for every second of video they create. This means that if you wanted to make a one-minute video, it would cost you $30. If you were to create a full hour of video, that would add up to $1,800. To put this into perspective, Jon Barron, a researcher at Google DeepMind, compared this pricing to the famous superhero movie “Avengers: Endgame,” which had a staggering production budget of $356 million. This budget translates to about $32,000 for every second of film, highlighting how much cheaper it is to use Veo 2 for video creation.
However, it’s important to note that when using Veo 2, customers might not end up using every second of the video they pay for. Additionally, Veo 2 is not designed to create extremely long movies like “Avengers: Endgame.” Instead, Google has pointed out that Veo 2 is capable of generating video clips that are at least two minutes long.
For comparison, there is another video generation tool called Sora, developed by OpenAI, which is available to users who subscribe to ChatGPT Pro. That subscription costs $200 each month.
