Govenor Yusuf dismisses SSG, Chief of Staff, and five commissioners

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has recently reshuffled his cabinet, resulting in the dismissal of several key officials. Among those let go are the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner of Information, and four additional commissioners. This significant change is part of a broader political strategy aimed at realigning his administration

According to Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, this cabinet reshuffle reflects a major political decision intended to enhance the effectiveness of the administration. The governor believes that these changes are crucial for achieving a more pragmatic approach to governance.

The governor’s statement emphasized that this long-awaited decision was made to ensure optimal performance, ultimately delivering greater dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State. The reshuffle is seen as a necessary step to improve administrative efficiency.

Among the officials affected by this shakeup is the Chief of Staff, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, whose position has been eliminated entirely. Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the Secretary to the State Government, was also removed due to health concerns, highlighting the serious nature of the changes.

Governor Yusuf has reassigned several cabinet members while dismissing others to enhance the overall performance of his administration. Those who have retained their positions include Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, the Commissioner for Agriculture.

Other retained officials include Dr. Abubakar Labaran, the Commissioner for Health; Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar, the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning; and Hon. Musa Suleiman Shannon, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning. These individuals are expected to continue contributing to the governor’s vision for the state.

The reshuffle also includes notable reassessments of roles. The Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, has been moved from the Ministry of Local Government to Higher Education. Similarly, Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman has transitioned from Science and Technology to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Other reassigned officials include Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, who has moved from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation. Hon. Amina Abdullahi has shifted from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children, and Disabled, and Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo has transitioned from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to the Ministry of Special Duties.
