Governor Yusuf presents a ₦549 billion Appropriation Bill to the Kano Assembly

On Friday, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, submitted the 2025 Appropriation Bill amounting to N549 billion to the state House of Assembly. This significant financial proposal aims to outline the state’s budgetary plans for the upcoming year.

Governor Yusuf characterized the budget as a comprehensive plan addressing both revenue generation and expenditure. He emphasized the importance of a well-structured financial framework to support the state’s development goals.

During the presentation, the governor detailed that the total size of the proposed budget is N549,160,417,663.00 billion. This figure includes a capital component of N312,634,912,672.18 billion, while recurrent expenditure is projected at N236,525,504,990.82 billion.

The governor highlighted that, once approved, the budget is expected to reflect a capital-to-recurrent expenditure ratio of 57:43 percent. This allocation strategy indicates a strong focus on capital investment, particularly in social and economic sectors.

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf pointed out that the anticipated capital spending will amount to N461,447,963,240.86, underscoring the administration’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and public services.

The governor provided a detailed breakdown of both recurrent and capital allocations by sector. Education emerged as the top priority, with an allocation of N168,350,802,346.19, which accounts for 31 percent of the total budget.

Following education, the health sector is set to receive N90,600,835,766.48, representing 16.50 percent of the budget. Other sectors, such as agriculture, infrastructure development, and manufacturing, commerce, and tourism, also received notable allocations.

Governor Yusuf reiterated that the budget reflects the administration’s priorities for 2025, focusing on human capital development and infrastructural improvements. He expressed a commitment to enhancing access to quality education despite the challenges posed by limited resources.

In conclusion, the governor’s presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill illustrates a strategic approach to budgeting, aimed at fostering growth and development in Kano State. The emphasis on education and infrastructure indicates a forward-looking vision for the state’s future.
