In a ceremony held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, the 2nd edition of the military and paramilitary games was officially opened by Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf on Sunday.
The governor, represented by the Chief of Staff Government House, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, emphasized the state government’s commitment to the development of sports activities due to their positive impact on the economy, health, and well-being of young people. He highlighted that the competition aimed to foster mutual understanding among security agencies in order to promote peace and unity.
The Nigerian Air Force football team displayed resilience and determination in their match, ultimately securing a 2-1 victory over KAROTA. The games will see the participation of over 675 athletes from the military and paramilitary, competing in various sports including athletics, badminton, basketball, football, and golf. Additionally, disciplines such as Judo, karate, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball will also be featured at different venues.
Notable attendees at the event included Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, Commissioner of Solid Minerals Alh. Safiyanu Hamza Kachakko, Sports Committee Chairman of the Kano State Assembly, Alh. Kabiru Usman, Kano municipal member Alhaji Sarki Aliyu Daneji, Kano State FA Chairman Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan, Commander of the Nigerian Air Force Kano Group Captain Mustapha Suleman, and retired Commissioner of Police and DG Corporate Security Alhaji Kabiru Gwarzo.
