Daddy Freeze, a well-known On Air Personality and influencer, has finally acknowledged his friendship with Hushpuppi, the controversial Nigerian fraudster and socialite.
DANDALI reminds us that Hushpuppi, whose real name is Ramon Abbas, was arrested by the FBI in 2020 and later convicted of internet fraud in the U.S. Prior to his arrest, Daddy Freeze shared videos on his YouTube channel in 2019 showcasing his visit to Hushpuppi’s luxurious Palazzo Versace home in Dubai.
Netizens criticized Daddy Freeze for his association with a criminal and for promoting Hushpuppi’s lavish lifestyle. In his defense, Freeze previously stated that he did not know Hushpuppi as a criminal but rather as an influencer.
However, in a recent video shared by Tunde Ednut on Sunday, Daddy Freeze admitted to being friends with Hushpuppi, even though he suspected that Hushpuppi’s wealth was questionable. He stated, “Hushpuppi has never given me money, not even $1. But he offered me friendship when no one else wanted to be my friend because they thought I was the devil.
“The first time I met Hushpuppi was when I was invited to Dubai with some influencers. At that time, I had already started the #FreeTheSheepple movement, but the other influencers didn’t like me. That was also when the church I attended for 10 years rejected me. Everyone turned their back on me. Then Hushpuppi sent me a DM asking, ‘Where are you? Come over.’
“So we hung out with some friends, chatted, took pictures, and posted them on his Snapchat. Why wouldn’t I be friends with someone who was there for me? How could I be angry with him? I might have suspected that his money wasn’t legitimate, but as Davido said in one of his songs, ‘be there for those who are there for you.’”
