Hundreds Of Companies Block DeepSeek Due To China Data Risks

DeepSeek, a chatbot created by a Chinese company, has become incredibly popular in the United States over the past week. It quickly climbed to the top of app stores on both Apple and Android devices. Major companies that provide cloud services, like Microsoft, have begun to include DeepSeek in their offerings as well.

However, many organizations, particularly those linked to the government, have opted to block the use of DeepSeek. This information comes from reports by Bloomberg, which spoke with executives from cybersecurity companies Armis and Netskope. The primary worry for these organizations is that the chatbot’s artificial intelligence (AI) could potentially share sensitive data with the Chinese government.

Nadir Izrael, the Chief Technology Officer of Armis, expressed that this is a significant concern. A law firm located in San Francisco, known as Fox Rothschild, has also decided to block DeepSeek from its systems.

DeepSeek’s privacy policy states that all the data collected from users is stored in China. According to Chinese laws, companies are obligated to share information with government intelligence agencies if they request it.

Recently, the U.S. Department of Defense has begun taking action against DeepSeek by blocking its use, following the Navy’s decision to ban the chatbot just a week earlier.
