Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis have announced that they are recalling approximately 208,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States. This decision was made because there is a problem that could cause the cars to suddenly lose power while being driven, which can be very dangerous. The details of this recall were shared with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and were initially reported by Reuters.
The main reason for this recall is related to a component called the integrated charging control unit (ICCU). This important part is responsible for managing the charging of the car’s 12-volt battery. If the ICCU becomes damaged, it may stop charging the battery, which can lead to a loss of power while driving. Essentially, if the battery doesn’t get charged properly, the car might suddenly stop working.

In particular, Hyundai is recalling about 145,235 of its electric vehicles, which includes models like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. Additionally, three electric vehicles from their luxury brand Genesis are included in this recall: the Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70, and Genesis G80, specifically from the model years 2022 through 2025. Kia is also recalling around 62,872 of their EV6 vehicles.
