Nigerian singer Panshak Zamani, better known as Ice Prince, has opened up about his struggles growing up as an orphan. The ‘Aboki’ artist revealed that his life became particularly difficult when he lost his mother at 21, after already losing his father at just 11.
In a recent episode of the ‘Listen’ podcast, Ice Prince shared that he worked various low-paying jobs to support himself through school but was unable to attend university due to a lack of N20,000.
He stated, “I don’t have a mother or father. I’m an only son, and that’s really tough. I lost my dad when I was eleven and my mum when I was around 21 or 22. I have a large family that relies on me.
“I don’t have any uncles, aunts, godfathers, or godmothers to depend on. It’s been nothing but God in my life.
“I want people to see my journey and realize that if I can succeed, then no one has an excuse to fail.
“I was the guy who spent at least three weeks at home every term because of school fees. I didn’t go to university because of N20,000. I had about two weeks to pay it, but I couldn’t raise the money in time, and that’s how I lost my admission.”
