‘I didn’t have a bank account while I was with P-Square,’ says May D.

Nigerian singer Akinmayokun Awodumila, widely known as May D, has shared his experiences regarding the alleged mistreatment he faced while signed to the R&B duo P-Square’s record label, Square Records. In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, he disclosed that he lacked both comfortable accommodation and a bank account during his time with the label. May D also recounted how Davido sought refuge with him after leaving home, but he was unable to host him due to the poor conditions of the room in P-Square’s mansion.

“When Davido was trying to escape from his dad, he came to my room in P-Square’s house and said, ‘May D, is this where you stay? I can’t sleep here.’ If I had a proper room, it would have been better,” he recalled. “During the four years I spent with P-Square, I didn’t have a bank account. You only open an account when you have money.”

May D accused P-Square of sabotaging his opportunities with Akon’s Konvict Music, where the duo had previously been signed. He revealed that he confided in P-Square about Akon’s intention to sign him during their trip to the U.S. for the ‘Chop My Money Remix’ video shoot, but the duo intervened and blocked the American singer from signing him.

May D gained prominence after joining Square Records in 2011, but it was officially announced in August 2012 that he was no longer with the label.
