Hushpuppi’s Mother Cries
“The day I gave birth to him was filled with celebration and joy. Friends and family came together, sharing in the happiness of a new life. They praised me and rubbed my belly, filled with hopes and dreams for the future. But little did I know that this child, whom I cherished so deeply, would grow up to bring such shame upon our family.
From a young age, my husband and I worked tirelessly to provide for him. I sold bread at the local market, waking up before dawn to prepare the dough, while his father drove a taxi, working long hours to make ends meet. We sacrificed so much to ensure he had a good education, sending him to secondary school with the hope that he would build a better future for himself. We even enrolled him in a mechanic program, believing he would learn a valuable trade that would lead him to a respectable life. But instead, he chose a path of crime and deceit.
I cannot express the sorrow I feel as a mother. I wouldn’t wish a son like Abbas on any other mother, for he embodies disgrace and betrayal. The choices he made have not only affected him but have also tarnished our family’s name.
People often tell me they see him flaunting his ill-gotten gains on this thing you call ‘social media.’ They describe how he drives extravagant cars and wears designer clothes, living a life that seems so far removed from our humble existence. Meanwhile, I am still here, selling bread, and his father continues to drive a taxi on hire purchase, struggling to make a living.
Do you consider me a mother? In my heart, I feel as though I have lost that title. The child I once held with so much love and hope has become a source of pain and disappointment. He should remain where he is for a long time, as he means nothing to us now. All I can do is pray for him. May Allah forgive him for his sins and grant him the wisdom to return the money he took from others, and perhaps, find a way back to the right path.”
