Famous Nollywood actress Ini Edo has finally shared her reasons for choosing surrogacy over carrying her baby herself. She revealed this during Season 3 of the reality show “Young Famous and African.”
In a conversation with her co-stars, Ini Edo also discussed her child’s paternity. When asked about her marriage and her daughter’s father, she mentioned facing challenges with carrying pregnancies.
Here’s how the exchange went:
- Nadia: “Do you have a kid?”
- Ini Edo: “Yes, a baby girl.”
- Nadia: “Are you married?”
- Ini Edo: “I’m not married.”
- Nadia: “Are you with the dad?”
- Ini Edo: “No, I am not.”
- Nadia: “Is he still alive?”
- Ini Edo: “He is not dead. He has nothing to do with us. It’s just me and my daughter.”
Ini emphasized her desire to keep her journey private, stating, “I’m raising my child alone. I went through surrogacy. At the time I wanted to have a child, there was no man in my life, and there are various ways to approach this.”
She continued, “I never expected to have fertility issues, but I struggled with carrying pregnancies long-term. As it became clear that it might not happen and I wasn’t getting younger, I considered my options. Surrogacy came up, and I decided to go for it. I’m very happy with my choice.”
Ini also mentioned that she underwent IVF procedures and experienced six miscarriages before opting for surrogacy. It’s worth noting that the 42-year-old actress was previously married to Nigerian-American businessman Philip Ehiagwina in November 2008, but they divorced in 2014.
