“I learned about Mohbad’s burial online,” says his widow, Omowunmi.

Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late Nigerian music star Mohbad, revealed that she discovered her husband’s burial through the Internet. Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and less than 24 hours after his tragic death, his father, Joseph Aloba, buried him in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Omowunmi stated that she was not informed about the plans to bury her husband so soon after his passing. She mentioned that it took the intervention of family and friends to prevent her father-in-law from proceeding with the burial on the night of Mohbad’s death.

She recounted, “A nurse is involved in this case. He [Mohbad] reacted to an injection. The night my husband died, my father-in-law came to the house, and the nurse explained what had happened. My husband’s manager wanted to have the nurse arrested, but my father-in-law insisted we let the nurse go.

“Many people pleaded with my father-in-law not to bury my late husband that night, but he was adamant. In fact, even on the day of the burial, he didn’t inform me. I found out online.”

Omowunmi also alleged that her father-in-law and a woman attempted to kidnap her son, Liam, on the day of her husband’s burial.

“It still feels like my husband is alive. He is in the Yaba morgue. He has not been buried. It’s so sad. He has been ‘pieced’ twice,” she added.

Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21 for an autopsy due to the controversies surrounding his death. The results of the autopsy are still pending, but Joseph Aloba has previously stated that his son’s body will only be reburied once the issues surrounding his death are resolved.
