Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential aspirant of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, has chosen to remain silent regarding the internal crisis currently affecting the party in the state. When approached by journalists at his residence on Miller Road in Kano, Kwankwaso expressed his reluctance to discuss the matter.
He stated, “I don’t want to talk, please. Don’t drag me into what I am not supposed to be dragged into. The chairman of the party has spoken and has been speaking; reach out to him.” This indicates his desire to avoid involvement in the ongoing disputes within the party.

The internal crisis has led to significant developments, including the suspension of key party officials. Daily Trust reported that the SSG, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and the Commissioner of Transportation, Muhammad Diggol, were suspended amid allegations of misconduct.
According to party chairman Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, the suspensions were a result of alleged disrespect towards the party, abuse of power, and disloyalty. These actions have created further tension within the party ranks.
The timing of the suspensions is notable, occurring just an hour after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf facilitated a reconciliation meeting between the SSG and disgruntled members of his constituency. This reconciliation effort highlights the ongoing challenges the party faces in maintaining unity.
In addition to the suspensions, the SSG has distanced himself from a campaign that seeks to create a rift between Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso. This campaign is being referred to as “Abba Tsaya da Kafarka,” which translates to “Abba stand on your feet.”
The internal strife within the NNPP underscores the complexities of political dynamics in the region. As the party navigates these challenges, the leadership will need to address the underlying issues to restore harmony.
Kwankwaso’s decision to refrain from commenting may reflect a strategic choice to avoid exacerbating the situation. As the party moves forward, the focus will likely remain on resolving conflicts and fostering collaboration among its members.
