“I promised myself that I wouldn’t have a child outside of marriage” – Ruggedman.

Nigerian rapper and activist Michael Stephens, widely known as Ruggedman, recently opened up about his current status as neither a husband nor a father. At 51 years old, Ruggedman shared insights into his personal beliefs and experiences regarding family and relationships during an appearance on the TVC program Your View.

He revealed that, in his younger years, he made a vow to himself not to have a child out of wedlock. This commitment reflects his values and the importance he places on love and commitment in relationships. During the interview, he expressed some ambivalence about his decision, stating:

“I am not married and do not have a child yet. When I was much younger, I vowed never to have a child out of wedlock. Sometimes, I wonder whether I made the right or wrong decision. But still, it takes a lot from both parties. You have to do it with someone you really love.”

Ruggedman also shared his experiences with relationships, mentioning that he has encountered several women he believed he would eventually marry. However, circumstances often led to these relationships not materializing. He recounted a specific instance where he was set to marry a particular woman, but a wealthy man entered the scene, and her mother intervened, leading to their separation.

In a previous interview from 2021, Ruggedman addressed the topic of marriage pressures. He noted that neither his mother nor other family members were pressuring him to marry, despite him being over 40 years old. He emphasized that he would choose to marry when he felt truly ready, highlighting the importance of timing and personal readiness in such significant life decisions.

Overall, Ruggedman’s reflections provide a glimpse into his values regarding relationships, love, and the societal expectations surrounding marriage and parenthood. His candidness about his journey resonates with many who grapple with similar questions about commitment and timing in their own lives.
