The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has initiated the monitoring of constituency projects valued at N21 billion throughout Kaduna State. This initiative is part of the commission’s commitment to promote accountability and transparency in the management of publicly funded projects.
In a recent statement, the ICPC highlighted that this tracking effort encompasses a total of 60 projects across the state. The aim is to ensure that these projects are executed properly and that public funds are utilized efficiently.
Chief Superintendent Haruna Aminu, representing the Constituency and Executive Tracking Department, spoke to reporters in Kaduna. He emphasized the importance of this initiative under the leadership of ICPC chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu.
The tracking process began on Wednesday in the Kafanchan area, where at least 21 projects were assessed. Currently, the team is focusing on the main town of Kaduna, particularly in the Kabala region, where they are monitoring projects like solar-powered street lights.
Aminu noted that the commission has observed varying levels of project execution. While some projects are progressing well, others have encountered significant issues that need to be addressed. He stressed that these initiatives are crucial for enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The ICPC is determined to ensure that no contractor escapes accountability. Aminu stated that contractors cannot receive government funds and abandon projects without consequences. The commission is committed to holding them responsible for their work.
He also declared that the time of abandoned projects is over. The ICPC has been given clear directives and support to tackle any contractors who fail to meet their obligations. This proactive approach aims to prevent future delays and inefficiencies.
