Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs’s son made a rare appearance on the red carpet at the premiere of ‘Wicked.’

Starr is a News Writer for InStyle, having worked in pop culture and entertainment since 2017 and joining InStyle in 2024. Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have been deliberate in keeping their son, Walker Nathaniel, out of the spotlight; however, he made a rare appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Wicked’ on November 9 to support his mother on the red carpet.

For the event, Menzel wore a fitted black one-shoulder gown, subtly referencing her character Elphaba from the Broadway version. Walker coordinated with her in his own all-black outfit, featuring a black suit and a black button-up shirt beneath the jacket. He added a youthful flair with black sneakers from A Bathing Ape, which have white soles and the brand’s signature shooting star logo.

Menzel shared her thoughts on parenting, saying, “What surprises me is how unpredictable it can be; one moment they want nothing to do with you, and the next, they show how much they need you. You must stay alert and be ready to step back, not take things personally. They feel your love but also need their space.”

Menzel and Diggs welcomed Walker, their only child, in 2008 after six years of marriage, before separating in 2013. On co-parenting, Diggs previously stated, “He’s what’s most important for us, so we’re still a family.” He emphasized that he and Menzel “were friends from the start, and especially with a child involved, there’s no room for negativity.”
