IGoSave has called for an investigation into telecommunications companies, alleging that internet providers are overcharging Nigerians.

Stand-up comedian Otaghware Onodjayeke, popularly known as IGoSave, has urged the relevant authorities to investigate the practices of telecommunications companies in Nigeria, alleging that they are defrauding the public. His call comes in light of a recent increase in tariffs by major internet providers in the country.

Currently in the United Kingdom, IGoSave pointed out that data services there are both faster and more reliable compared to those in Nigeria. In a video message shared on his social media, he expressed his astonishment at the efficiency of service in the UK, saying, “This is the third time I’ve gone to my service provider here to top up my phone, and they tell me I still have data. I’m shocked because I purchased just 20 gigabytes three weeks ago, and it’s still working—it’s even very fast.”

He continued, “This is a clarion call to the Nigerian government, NCC, EFCC, and ICPC to investigate all telecom providers. Internet providers in Nigeria are ripping off citizens. While 20 gigabytes lasts a month in the UK, a 50-gigabyte subscription in Nigeria doesn’t even last three days. What’s the reason for this discrepancy?”

IGoSave emphasized that internet providers are essentially defrauding Nigerians and called for an investigation, stating, “There’s no difference between them and internet fraudsters. How much is the minimum wage in Nigeria that they can charge so much for data that doesn’t last?”
