Jigawa state government unveils a budget of N698 billion for 2025

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has submitted the 2025 budget of N698.3 billion to the state’s House of Assembly for review and approval.

Significant allocations include N90.76 billion (13%) for personnel expenses, N63.69 billion (9%) for recurrent costs, and N534.76 billion (76%) for capital projects.

A substantial part of the capital budget—over N148 billion—has been designated for roads and infrastructure, focusing on the completion of 46 ongoing road projects.

To meet energy demands, the governor revealed plans for a 100 MW solar power plant and a solar panel manufacturing facility, with a total allocation of N39.4 billion.

This initiative is anticipated to enhance energy access and draw private investments. Education, a key focus, has been allocated N120 billion, while health services will receive N40 billion.

The budget also highlights economic empowerment, with more than N20 billion earmarked for market development, small business assistance, and revitalizing the Maigatari Export Processing Zone, all aimed at generating jobs and creating opportunities for youth and entrepreneurs.

To tackle environmental issues like flooding and erosion, N16.8 billion has been allocated for climate resilience projects, including the Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative to mitigate climate change impacts.

Additionally, N10.72 billion has been allocated for the second phase of the Mass Housing Programme, which aims to provide affordable housing for residents.
