Joe Igbokwe: Is There Any Minister Smarter Than El-Rufai in Tinubu’s Cabinet?

In a recent statement, Joe Igbokwe, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised eyebrows by asserting that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, stands out as the most capable minister in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet. Igbokwe’s remarks suggest that El-Rufai possesses qualities that surpass those of his peers, describing him as “greater, smarter, and bolder” than any other member of the administration.

This declaration comes amidst a backdrop of political tensions and controversies surrounding El-Rufai’s recent comments about the ruling party.

El-Rufai has faced significant backlash for his candid remarks regarding the internal dynamics of the APC. During an event attended by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, he criticized the ruling party for its failure to uphold internal democracy.

This statement did not sit well with some of Tinubu’s allies, who responded with a barrage of verbal attacks. Despite the criticism, Igbokwe has come to El-Rufai’s defense, emphasizing the former governor’s political acumen and the pivotal role he played in securing Tinubu’s electoral victory in 2023.

In his defense, Igbokwe expressed confusion over the reported blockage of El-Rufai’s ministerial nomination by political adversaries within the APC. He pointed out that El-Rufai’s contributions to the party during the recent elections were invaluable.

Igbokwe reminisced about the collaborative efforts of El-Rufai, former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, and another governor to thwart a controversial monetary policy that threatened Tinubu’s chances of winning. He highlighted El-Rufai’s relentless efforts to retain Kaduna State for the APC, underscoring his dedication to the party’s success.

Igbokwe’s passionate remarks extended to questioning the motives behind the obstruction of El-Rufai’s ministerial appointment. He lamented that the party allowed individuals lacking integrity to impede the nomination process, suggesting that El-Rufai deserved a straightforward path to confirmation. He argued that the former governor’s qualifications and experience should have warranted a smooth transition into the cabinet, rather than being subjected to political maneuvering.

Moreover, Igbokwe posed a rhetorical question to emphasize El-Rufai’s exceptional capabilities: “Of what meat are they fed? Who among all the Ministers in the Federal Cabinet is greater, smarter, bolder, more clever, proficient and deeper than Mallam El-Rufai?” This inquiry serves to highlight Igbokwe’s belief that the APC is missing out on a valuable asset by sidelining El-Rufai. He expressed concern that neglecting such a prominent figure within the party is not only incomprehensible but also detrimental to the APC’s future.

In conclusion, Igbokwe’s impassioned plea for the party to recognize and value El-Rufai’s contributions resonates with many who believe that strong leadership is essential for the APC’s continued success.

He cautioned against losing such a formidable character to rival parties, emphasizing that El-Rufai’s political prowess is a resource the APC cannot afford to squander. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the implications of Igbokwe’s comments may prompt further discussions about the roles and recognition of key figures within the ruling party.
