Julius Berger Given One-Year Deadline to Complete N280bn Road Project

The Federal Government has set a new deadline of September 2025 for Julius Berger to complete the N280bn Bodo-Bonny Road project in Rivers State. This follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval of an upward review of the contract sum to ensure timely completion of the road.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this during an inspection of federal road projects in Rivers State on Monday. He explained that after extensive negotiations, the government approved Julius Berger’s request for the full contract sum to expedite the project.

“We have granted Julius Berger their financial request after prolonged discussions. They were firm on the amount needed, and the President has approved the fixed contract sum of N280bn,” Umahi said, urging the company to adhere to project specifications and begin mobilizing work across multiple locations.

Umahi emphasized the importance of meeting the new deadline and revealed that he would conduct two more inspections before the end of 2024 to ensure that the contractor stays on track.

“We’re giving a final deadline of September 2025 for completion,” Umahi said, adding, “I’ll return for inspections in October and November to monitor progress and ensure the terms of the agreement are being met.”

President Tinubu has taken a special interest in the road’s completion, directing top officials, including the National Security Adviser and the CEO of the NNPCL, to ensure regular updates and coordination between all stakeholders.
