Governor Senator Uba Sani of Kaduna State has called for a coordinated military effort to combat the growing insecurity in the North-West, particularly the challenges posed by banditry and terrorism. His remarks came during a recent courtesy visit from Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
Emphasizing the need for collaboration, Governor Sani pointed out the importance of a unified approach among Northern States. He praised the Federal Government’s establishment of the Joint Military Command and the upcoming Operation Fansan Yamma, viewing these initiatives as strong indicators of the government’s commitment to addressing security issues in the region.
The Defence Minister’s visit was primarily aimed at finalizing preparations for the launch of Operation Fansan Yamma. This operation is designed specifically to tackle insecurity in the North-West, and it is expected to enhance military presence and coordination in the area.
Governor Sani commended the efforts of the Kaduna State administration in supporting security agencies. He highlighted the construction of roads, which aims to improve access to hard-to-reach areas, thus facilitating better security operations and response.
In addition to military efforts, the Governor stressed the importance of addressing the underlying causes of insecurity. He advocated for investments in key sectors such as agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure to foster a more stable and secure environment for citizens.
Sani also proposed the development of a comprehensive, people-driven Marshall Plan aimed at regional development. He underscored the necessity of transparent leadership in managing the North-West Development Commission to ensure effective implementation of these initiatives.

During the meeting, the Governor made a specific request for Operation Safe Haven to operate under the jurisdiction of 1 Division in Kaduna. He believes this move would significantly enhance security coordination in the region.
The Defence Minister responded positively, pledging federal support for the state’s security initiatives. He expressed gratitude to the troops for their dedication and service during his visits to the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, the Air Training Command, and various frontline local governments.
As preparations for Operation Fansan Yamma progress, there is a sense of optimism among stakeholders that this joint military initiative will effectively confront the multifaceted security challenges facing the North-West.
With collaborative efforts and targeted strategies, both Governor Sani and Defence Minister Abubakar are hopeful that these actions will lead to improved security and stability in the region, ultimately benefiting the communities affected by insecurity.
