Kamala Harris Appears on Saturday Night Live With Maya Rudolph

On Saturday evening, Vice President Kamala Harris unexpectedly joined the opening sketch of Saturday Night Live, where she was portrayed by Maya Rudolph’s uncannily accurate impersonation.

The Republican candidate, portrayed by James Austin Johnson, is visibly fatigued during his final campaign rally, acknowledging his exhaustion and erratic behavior to the audience.

The rest of the cast makes cameo appearances as impressions of figures in the Harris campaign, with Andy Samberg as Doug Emhoff, Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz, and Dana Carvey as Joe Biden. Ultimately, Rudolph’s Harris is left alone with her reflections, wishing she could find someone who shares her unique experience as a Black, South Asian woman running for president from the Bay Area.

Fortunately, Vice President Harris is there to serve as her mirror. She responds to Rudolph, saying, “I feel the same way, sister. It’s good to see you, Kamala, and I’m just here to remind you, ‘You’ve got this,’ because you can do something your opponent cannot. You can open doors.”

After joking about Harris’s famous laugh, Rudolph takes her hand and says, “Take my hand. The American people want to stop the chaos and end the drama with a cool new step. Kick back in our pajamas and watch a romantic comedy.”
Together, they decide to: “Keep Kamala and carry on.”

There were rumors that Harris would appear on the comedy show this weekend, which led her to adjust her campaign schedule to include a stop in New York City.
