The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported the vandalism of two towers along its 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines, leading to severe damage and power outages in the Kaduna and Kano regions. While TCN did not directly attribute the incident to bandits, there is suspicion of their involvement, particularly following the recent killing of 13 farmers in the Shiroro community.
According to TCN, the 330kV transmission line 1 tripped first, followed shortly by line 2 while efforts were still underway to restore the first line. This prompted the deployment of local vigilantes to patrol the area. The damage was discovered at towers T133 and T136, with cables severely affected at several points.

In response, an aerial survey was conducted in collaboration with security operatives to assess the situation. Temporary measures have been implemented to supply power to Kaduna and Kano through the 330kV Kaduna–Jos transmission line while reconstruction efforts are being prepared.
TCN assured that it is working on deploying a newly procured “emergency restoration system” to the site and is committed to re-erecting the damaged towers and restringing the lines to restore full power transmission in the affected areas. The Shiroro–Kaduna lines are crucial for transmitting 600MW of bulk power to parts of the North West, and their vandalism poses a major challenge to power distribution in the region.
