The Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has officially presented certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen of the 44 Local Governments. This significant event took place on Sunday morning, marking a crucial step in the local governance process.Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi, the Chairman of KANSIEC, presided over the issuance of these certificates. He emphasized the importance of this ceremony in affirming the legitimacy of the elected officials.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the Commission announced that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) emerged victorious in all 44 chairmanship positions, as well as in 484 Councillorship seats during the elections held on Saturday.

While presenting the certificates, Malumfashi highlighted the Commission’s responsibility to recognize the elected Chairmen and Councillors as the rightful leaders of their respective local government areas. He noted that the Commission is mandated to fulfill this role as part of the electoral process.
Malumfashi also mentioned that the newly elected officials are now tasked with addressing the official needs of their local government areas. This responsibility is crucial for effective governance and community development.
Reports indicate that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is expected to swear in the chairmen at the Government House in Kano soon. This ceremony will formalize their roles and empower them to begin their duties.
In a previous address at the Commission’s headquarters, Malumfashi remarked on the smooth and orderly conduct of the elections across all 44 Local Government Areas. He expressed satisfaction with the electoral process and the level of organization achieved.
The Commission had initially planned to hold the elections on November 30, but they were rescheduled to October 26 due to a Supreme Court ruling that affirmed local government autonomy. This ruling was pivotal in ensuring that the elections proceeded as planned.
Malumfashi welcomed the peaceful nature of the elections, recognizing its significance, especially in light of the importance of local government autonomy. He indicated that the efforts made by the Commission to ensure a smooth electoral process were successful, with no major incidents reported across the state.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has expressed its views regarding the recent elections. Their response reflects the competitive nature of the political landscape in the region as the new chairmen prepare to take office.
