Kebbi governor orders arrests over Lakurawa attack reprisals

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has taken decisive action following a violent reprisal against a Fulani community. He has ordered the immediate arrest of those involved in this attack, which was a response to the earlier Mera incident perpetrated by the Lakurawa terrorist group.

During a condolence visit to the affected area in Augie Local Government, the governor condemned the retaliatory violence that resulted in the deaths of six Fulani individuals. His visit underscored the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate intervention.

The reprisal was reportedly aimed at Fulani individuals suspected of being involved in the initial Mera attack, where 17 people lost their lives due to the actions of the Lakurawa terrorists. This cycle of violence highlights the ongoing tensions in the region.

Speaking to local residents, Governor Idris expressed his strong disapproval of the retaliatory killings. He emphasized that such actions are unjust and counterproductive, calling for accountability among those who perpetrate violence in the name of revenge.

The governor’s directive for immediate arrests signifies a firm stance against vigilante justice. He urged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, advocating instead for cooperation with law enforcement.

Idris encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities to security authorities rather than resorting to violence. This call for vigilance is part of a broader strategy to maintain peace and order in the region.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to fighting banditry, the governor pledged unwavering support for security agencies. He aims to bolster their efforts in combating criminal elements that threaten the safety of the community.

In conclusion, Governor Nasir Idris’s firm response to the recent violence underscores the need for law and order in Kebbi State. His administration is committed to ensuring justice and discouraging further acts of retaliation, promoting a culture of peace and cooperation among communities.
