The Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Kano State, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, has taken a firm stand against a recent publication by 247 U Reporters that he claims is defamatory. In an official notice issued through his legal team, H.M. Muhammad & Co., Kwankwaso has demanded an immediate retraction and a public apology. He argues that the article in question is not only damaging to his personal reputation but also undermines the integrity of the Kano State government.
Kwankwaso’s legal representatives outlined the serious nature of the allegations made in the publication. They assert that the report falsely accused him of being awarded contracts by the Kano State Government on multiple occasions, claiming he failed to meet the required terms. Such accusations, they argue, are baseless and intended to tarnish Kwankwaso’s hard-earned reputation.
Additionally, the publication allegedly insinuated a violent confrontation involving Kwankwaso, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kano State, and the Governor himself. This suggestion of conflict is particularly concerning for Kwankwaso, as it not only misrepresents the facts but also paints a misleading picture of the political landscape in Kano State.
In their communication, Kwankwaso’s legal team emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating, “These allegations are entirely untrue and have no basis in fact.” They have formally issued a cease and desist notice, insisting on the immediate removal of the defamatory post. The request for retraction is accompanied by a demand for a public apology to be published in two national daily newspapers.
Lastly, Kwankwaso’s legal team has set a strict timeline for compliance, requesting that the retraction and apology be completed within 48 hours of receiving the notice. They have warned that failure to adhere to these demands could lead to legal action under the Penal Code, highlighting the gravity of the situation and Kwankwaso’s commitment to protecting his reputation and that of the Kano State government.
