Kwankwaso, Donald Duke, and Obasanjo convene to discuss Nigerian politics

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, recently met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo. This significant encounter took place over the weekend in Abeokuta, Ogun State, a location known for its political history and influence.

The meeting was held at Obasanjo’s residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL). Accompanying Kwankwaso was former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, highlighting the importance of the gathering and the discussions that ensued.

Kwankwaso took to his X handle (formerly Twitter) to share insights from the meeting. He noted that the discussions revolved around “important national issues,” emphasizing the future of politics and governance in Nigeria. This focus on pressing matters reflects the current political climate in the country.

In his post, Kwankwaso expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with Obasanjo. He stated, “I was pleased to be in the company of my friend, HE Donald Duke, and other associates to pay a courtesy call on President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta.” This acknowledgment underscores the camaraderie among political figures.

The conversations during the visit were characterized by a deep exploration of significant national issues. Kwankwaso mentioned that these topics defined their dialogue, indicating a mutual concern for the direction of Nigeria’s governance and political landscape.

Kwankwaso also conveyed gratitude for Obasanjo’s warm hospitality, stating, “We are grateful to Baba for his warm support and hospitality. – RMK.” This expression of gratitude not only reflects respect but also a recognition of Obasanjo’s role in shaping Nigerian politics.

According to reports from Daily Trust, this meeting follows a notable event in November when Obasanjo attended the wedding of Kwankwaso’s daughter in Kano. This attendance highlighted the ongoing relationship between the two political figures.
