Labour and the Federal Government sign MoU on minimum wage adjustments

The federal government’s newly formed committee on consequential salary adjustments, stemming from the Minimum Wage Act 2024, has completed its work, with both parties signing a Memoranda of Understanding.

The Nigerian Federal Government has reached a significant milestone with the new Minimum Wage Act 2024.

President Bola Tinubu recently approved a minimum wage increase from N30,000 to N70,000.

This development led to the formation of a 16-member committee to handle consequential salary adjustments.

The committee was formally inaugurated by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack.

Mrs. Walson-Jack, who also chairs the committee, represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the inauguration.

The committee’s primary task was to negotiate and agree on consequential adjustments in salaries.

After deliberations, the committee has successfully concluded its assignment.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by both the government and trade union sides.

The MOU outlines the agreed-upon consequential adjustments in salaries.

According to Mrs. Walson-Jack, all members considered and signed the MOU.

The signed copies were handed over to representatives from both sides.

Comrade Benjamin Anthony, National Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council, commended the HCSF.

Anthony expressed satisfaction with the committee’s work and praised the peaceful negotiations.

The signed MOU will now be forwarded to the federal government for further action, marking a significant step forward in implementing the new minimum wage.
