MD Ibzaar Describes Literacy As Key Component In Education

Ibzaar Publishing company limited and Non-Formal Development for Education and Health Initiatives (NDEHI), organized a training of trainers (TOT), on basic and post literacy materials.

The two day workshop held at Bayero university Kano BUK attracted teachers and facilitators from across the state universal basic education board (SUBEB) Kano state agency for mass literacy SAME among others.

The state coordinator Civil society action coalition on education for all (CSACEFA) Dr. Auwal Halilu who doubles as the executive director NDEHI explained that the workshop was organized to complement the declaration of state of emergency on education by governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He stressed that,40 teachers were selected to undergo the training where they are expected to cascade the training to at least 40 teachers each.

Dr. Auwal who is also a lecturer at the department of adult education and community development BUK said, Ibzaar publishing is the first corporate organization not a development partner or government entity in Kano that provided funds to train teachers for the development of children education.

“The workshop was organized in respect of a pledge by a philanthropist and publishing company Ibzaar to train 40 master trainers who would in turn move to various communities and schools to train atleast 40 teachers each next term”

The chairman Kano state universal basic education board SUBEB Alhaji Yusif Kabir pointed out that the state government has set out certain criteria for appointing head teachers known as school support officers.

“Experienced teachers that have a first degree or above and must undergo aptitude test”

He described the workshop as apt, saying that the intervention would go a long way in improving effective service delivery in the education sector as the government alone cannot do it.

“ Selected academicians from will train the participants BUK, we hope at the end they will cascade the knowledge to at least 1,000 teachers across the 44 LGAs”

The acting executive secretary of Kano State Agency for Mass Education SAME Alhaji Surajo Mage Alkali highlighted that.

“This marks the first inclusion of the non-formal sector. It is crucial that the non-formal sector meets expectations, as it is a key and critical sector that has been historically neglected”

The chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) in Kano state, Alhaji Tijjani Baraya, emphasized that the majority of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the state have focused solely on school renovations and providing teaching and learning materials.
