Meta is reportedly venturing into the world of humanoid robotics, forming a new team within its Reality Labs hardware division to develop robots capable of assisting with physical tasks, according to a Bloomberg report. The team will focus on creating both hardware and software for humanoid robots, potentially including models designed to handle household chores.
Leading the initiative is Marc Whitten, former CEO of autonomous vehicle startup Cruise. Whitten brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Sonos. His team will not only develop robotic hardware but also the AI and software needed to power these advanced machines.

Meta’s goal isn’t to launch a Meta-branded robot right away. Instead, the company aims to create a foundational hardware platform for the broader robotics market, similar to how Google’s Android revolutionized the smartphone industry. Meta’s CTO, Andrew Bosworth, sees this as a strategic opportunity to establish Meta as a key player in the robotics space.
Additionally, Meta is reportedly in talks with robotics companies like Unitree Robotics and Figure AI to collaborate on prototypes, signaling its commitment to advancing humanoid robotics technology.
