The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has officially inaugurated a seven-member Disciplinary Tribunal for Registered Builders of Nigeria. This important development was announced in a recent statement by Salis Haiba, the Director of Information and Public Relations.
The newly formed tribunal is responsible for examining and resolving any infractions committed by members, as referred by the panel from the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria. This initiative reflects a commitment to uphold the integrity of the building profession.
In his inauguration speech, Minister Dangiwa highlighted the ministry’s dedication to working alongside professional organizations and regulatory agencies within the built environment. He emphasized the need for these collaborations to ensure that practices align with global standards.
Dangiwa stated, “The tribunal is part of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria, empowered to maintain the standards of the building profession and safeguard public safety.” This initiative is supported by sections 16 (1) and (2) of the Builders Registration Act, Cap B13, LFN 2004, which lays the groundwork for the tribunal’s establishment.
The minister acknowledged the critical role builders play in constructing safe and reliable structures that protect lives. He stressed the necessity of adhering to established regulations and standards within the profession to prevent potential disasters.

He issued a warning about the severe consequences that can arise from neglecting safety protocols. The minister’s remarks underscored the importance of enforcing professional standards and ethics in the construction industry.
Dangiwa expressed his concern over the alarming frequency of building collapses occurring throughout the country. He specifically referenced a recent tragic incident in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as a stark reminder of the urgent need for reform.
